Well things are humming, the weather is warmer, the leaves on the vines are sprouting, and the wineries are gearing up to play! Despite the freeze and loss of grapes, everyone is surging forward. We seem to have lost a good amount of white grapes as they were budding first when the freeze hit. But on to more cheerful news..
Arcady Vineyard Bed and Breakfast Inn
We are working towards getting our license and will start our County and Health Dept inspections soon! The replanting of the vineyard has been sucessful so far. There are 200 baby Chamboursin vines out back (see left) and so we can still enjoy watching our deer we put grow tubes around them for now so they don't end up being munched! They were delivered when the freeze was being announced so spent some time in the prenatal ward (read: in buckets of water in the basement) prior to planting.
The wineries are gearing up with lots of activites as well. A couple we like are the polo games at King Family Vineyards which start on May 27th. The games begin at 1:30 and you can bring a picnic and purchase wine by the glass or the bottle to enjoy the afternoon! Check the status of the games at http://www.roselandpolo.com/ since they are affected by rain.
Cardinal Point is gearing up for their music concerts among other activities. The first one is on May 12 and features THE GUANO BOYS who play Reggae, Ska, Calypso, Afro-Caribbean Funk. Original and Favorite Island-style jams. Bring your picnic but no alcohol. You can purchase wine by the glass or the bottle, entry is $10 and includes a wine glass souvenir! Funds go to a local charity.
A good site to check what is going on in a winery near you is http://www.virginiawines.org/wineries/index.html where they are all listed with their links in alpha order
